Ryan finishes in 2:59:54. By the skin of his teeth he achieved his dream sub 3
I have been coaching Ryan Ford for a few years now. In that period his commitment to training has been unwavering.
This years early season goal was to go sub 3 hours at Brighton Marathon. The training data suggested we were well on course for this. But one thing we did not plan for was Storm Kathleen’s 50 mph winds on Sunday.
This meant a different approach and change of race day tactics. We had to use the wind to our advantage on certain parts of the course by going well above target race pace and then being super defensive in other parts of the course going slower than target pace and drafting off targeted taller competitors.
